Bajaj-KTM is planning to launch a new range of electric scooters which is expected to hit the Indian markets by 2022.

The Indian bikemaker Bajaj is planning to launch its first electric scooter into the India market soon. The all-new Urbanite scooter range will be the first, an all-electric vehicle introduced by the Bajaj-KTM. The all-new Urbanite scooter range will be quite different from what the brand is offering to the mass-market and the entry-level markets. Moreover, Bajaj-KTM is also planning to introduce an all-new powering unit for more powerful products. The forthcoming platform is currently in the prototype stage, but the development of the product is happening at a rapid pace. We expect the new prototype of electric scooter to get launched by 2022.

Powering the scooter is to be a 48-volt motor which is expected to underpin a diverse range of electric scooters with an output of about 3 to 10 kW. Moreover, the upcoming new products based on this new platform will get manufactured in India itself. The partnership between Bajaj and KTM has become quite high-yielding in India. Both the brands have acquired alot for each other and, the companies are behind the launch of triumphant motorcycles like Bajaj Dominar 400 and KTM 390 Duke. In the forthcoming years, when the consumers will shift their interest towards the electric vehicles, we expect the venture to introduce something more interesting and anticipating products into the Indian market. It will take some time for the Indian people to accept electric vehicles. But, we expect that in coming years, the Indian government will only allow the sale of electric-powered small capacity two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

So, this new platform will hugely help the brand in the future. Although the cost of electric vehicles are expected to be quite higher as compared to regular vehicles. So, we expect the government to provide subsidies to enhance the sales of EVs. Doing this will help to reduce pollution and, the government will establish a good electric vehicle business in India.
