Ethanol-powered TVS Apache RTR 200 FI E100 Launched In India At Rs 1.20 lakh

Indian bike marker TVS has just launched a new version of the Apache in India that is powered by Ethanol. The bike is named TVS Apache RTR 200 FI E100.

Yes, you heard it right, the Indian bike manufacturer TVS has just launched the ethanol-powered version of the TVS Apache RTR 4V named as Apache RTR 200 FI E100. The newly launched motorcycle carries a price tag of Rs 1.20 lakh, which means the Apache RTR powered by Ethanol is around Rs 9,000 more expensive than the regular Petrol-powered Apache RTR 4V. Ethanol-powered Apache will only get retailed in cities like Uttar Prades, Maharashtra and Karnataka at Initial stages. The surprising part of this bike is the ethanol-powered TVS Apache 200 RTR FI E100 cannot run on normal fuel. Moreover, if you buy this bike right away you won't be getting ethanol-fuel to run this bike at this moment. This bike was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. Expect from the fuel this bike runs on everything remains the same and, even mechanically this bike will also remain the same.

Why an ethanol-powered motorcycle?

The Bio-ethanol fuel is made after the sugar fermentation process and, the main source of energy for the sugar crop is energy crops like Maize and Wheat. And these plants grow quite well in our country. Moreover, Ethanol is a fuel which is biodegradable and it is also low in toxicity. The ethanol-powered Apache is not an electric bike and the pollution produced by the burning of ethanol is very much lesser than that of burning fossil fuels. Ethanol does not produce as much much power as petrol does. So, the engine should burn ethanol in a good quantity to make power equivalent to petrol. So, we can expect the ethanol-powered Apache will have a higher combustion ratio. This means the all-new Apache will produce power and torque outputs of 21 hp at 8,500 rpm and 18.1 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Once ethanol fuel gets launched in India, it will cost around Rs 52-55 per litre.

Mr Venu Srinivasan chairman of TVS Motor company said “TVS Motor Company believes that ethanol-based products are an important option for our customers. This is due to the easy compatibility in the transition to ethanol and its sustained positive impact on the environment without compromising on performance and total cost of ownership. TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 is a breakthrough in the two-wheeler space that will set the trend for a green future in India.”
