Honda PCX Electric Scooter Showcased At Dealers Meet

Recent reports suggest that Honda is planning to initiate a study for electric two-wheelers in India in Q1 FY2021, and a few days back the bikemaker showcased the Honda PCX Electric to the dealers.

Recent reports suggest that Honda is planning to initiate a study for electric two-wheelers in India in Q1 FY2021, and a few days back the bikemaker showcased the Honda PCX Electric to the dealers. The Japanese bike manufacturer first showcased the PCX Electric at the 2018 Auto Expo (in concept form). The electric two-wheeler made its market debut in Japan in November 2018 but as a lease-only model. Moreover, at the time of its launch, Honda announced that initially, their annual target is to sell 250 units annually. The scooter employs LED lights all over with some Blue coloured accents for the headlamp’s light bracket and also in taillight inner lens. The Blue colour accents are also featured on the body and parts of the electric scooter. Honda PCX gets propelled by a Lithium-ion battery with good energy density, and it offers 48V per unit voltage. The Lithium-ion battery weighs around 10 Kg.

The President and CEO of the Honda’s Indian arm Minoru Kato said, “We have the capability and we showcased that at the last Auto Expo with the PCX electric. It will be introduced in other countries soon. Indian customers’ weight is a little bit higher than the customers from Thailand or Indonesia and there is a challenge of road and charging infrastructure, average speeds.”

The Honda PCX Electric scooter gets two mobile power packs, which are connected in series as the main source of power. There are two different ways to recharge the mobile power pack. The first way is to keep them mounted on the scooter, and utilizing the onboard charger. This technique takes around 6 hours. The second way is to remove them and charge it directly with a committed charger. Using this way, each power pack will take around 4 hours a full top-up. The Honda PCX Electric scooter comes loaded with features like the LCD instrument cluster, Keyless unlocking, helmet holder and a power outlet.
