A recent report from The Economic Times suggests that the American bike manufacturer UM Motorcycles has completely halted its production in India.

Speaking about the problem, Ayush Lohia, CEO, Lohia Auto said:

"As of today getting operational in the near term is not possible because there is no support from the UM side… It's a joint venture, we can’t make the decision alone if a foreign partner is not interested. There are a lot of terms and conditions in the agreement."

Ayush Lohia also says that UM Motorcycles is suffering from huge financial trouble. However, Lohia Auto is providing aid to a few dealers. The report also stipulates that a few UM Lohia dealerships are planning to take some legal action as well. In August of 2019, UM Motorcycles India claimed that they will revive its operations in India by the festive month. In a recent interview in August, Ayush Lohia has said that the Indo-American bike brand was going through a reconstruction exercise. Recent spy shots of two new UM bikes have surfaced recently and are expected to be launched after the re-introduction of the brand. UM Motorcycle's current line-up includes cruiser-style bikes and its ADV models are expected to launch soon.

The bikemaker has registered zero sales since April 2019. A big reason for that is the fact that UM Motorcycles has never upgraded its bikes including mandated features like ABS. Furthermore, a report from July 2019 states that UM Motorcycles will reintroduce itself as UM+. The report also suggests that UM Motorcycles was earlier planning to set up a new production facility in Hyderabad and the bikemaker will be partnering with an Indian bike manufacturer.
